Cooking in a Tiny Kitchen: Season 1 Episode 7: Homemade Pizza
Scott decided to save some serious money this episode by making pizza at home from scratch. Yes, that includes making his own crust.
Pizza Dough
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/3 cups warm water (100-110F)
Mix the sugar and water together. Once the sugar is dissolved, add the yeast and mix. Let sit until the yeast blooms, approx. 5 minutes. Once bloomed, add the olive oil.
In a large bowl, or the bowl of your stand mixed, add the flour and salt, and stir gently until just combined. Add the bloomed yeast mixture and beat on low for 2-4 minutes, or until the dough has formed a ball.
Turn out dough ball onto a floured surface and knead for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the dough bounces back from a poke test.
Grease a large bowl with olive oil and place the dough ball inside. Cover with clear wrap or a damp kitchen towel, and let sit at room temperature for 60-90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface, punch it down, and separate into two. If only making one pizza, place the second dough ball into an airtight container and freeze for up to three months.
Punch out the dough into your desired shape and start making your pizza.
